Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has become the centre of a major controversy after Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director M Najmul Islam labelled him an “Indian agent”. The remark came after Tamim suggested that the ongoing tension between India and Bangladesh cricket should be resolved through dialogue, especially in light of the release of Mustafizur Rahman from Kolkata Knight Riders’ IPL squad.
🔴 Tamim calls for calm – gets attacked instead
Speaking at an event in Dhaka, Tamim said that decisions should be taken keeping Bangladesh cricket’s future first, and sensitive issues should ideally be discussed internally rather than through public statements. He stressed that if possible, disputes should be settled through discussion rather than confrontation.
Soon after, the BCB director shared a post mocking Tamim and calling him an “Indian agent”, which triggered a wave of criticism from fans and cricketers alike.
🗣️ Teammates rally behind Tamim
Several senior Bangladesh players publicly backed Tamim and condemned the director’s comments.

Taskin Ahmed wrote that cricket is Bangladesh’s lifeblood and such remarks against a former captain are harmful and irresponsible.
-
Taijul Islam called the comment “distasteful and unacceptable”, demanding a public apology and accountability.
-
Mohammad Saifuddin also reposted the protest message, showing solidarity.
-
Former Test captain Mominul Haque said Tamim was intentionally humiliated and urged the BCB to take strict and immediate action.
Under pressure, Najmul deleted his post — but screenshots continue to circulate widely online.

The ICC has assured Bangladesh of full security and uninterrupted participation in the tournament.
