The International Cricket Council (ICC) and JioStar have jointly dismissed all rumours surrounding a possible breakdown of their massive USD 3 billion, four-year media rights partnership, reaffirming their commitment just months ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026.
In a strong, united statement issued on Friday, December 12, both organisations called recent speculation “incorrect” and stressed that the agreement remains “fully in force”.
📢 “JioStar is fully committed” — Joint Statement
The official release stated:
“JioStar is fully committed to honour its contractual obligations in letter and spirit. Both organisations remain focused on delivering uninterrupted, world-class coverage of upcoming ICC events to fans across India, including the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.”
This clarification comes soon after a December 9 report suggested there could be hurdles in the existing arrangement. Cricbuzz noted that ending the multi-year deal — signed in 2023 to telecast ICC’s marquee tournaments till 2027 — would be extremely complicated due to JioStar’s massive investments in broadcast infrastructure and fan-engagement platforms such as JioCinema and Star Sports.
📰 Media Reports Are “Not Reflective of Reality”
The ICC–JioStar statement emphasised:
“Recent media reports concerning the status of the ICC’s media rights agreement in India do not reflect the position of either organisation. Any suggestion that JioStar has withdrawn from the agreement is incorrect.”
🎥 No Impact on Fans, Advertisers or Partners
To reassure stakeholders, the statement added:
“Preparations for the upcoming events are progressing exactly as planned. There is no impact on viewers, advertisers, or industry partners.”
The ICC and JioStar also highlighted that they maintain regular communication on operational, commercial, and strategic matters to ensure the partnership continues to strengthen cricket’s growth in India.
