India’s Test and ODI captain, Shubman Gill, has lauded the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) for aiding his recovery ahead of the five-match T20I series against South Africa. After sustaining a neck injury during the first Test against the Proteas in Kolkata last month, Gill missed the second Test and the three-match ODI series but is now back in full fitness.
💬 “You Can’t Ask For Better” — Gill on the CoE
Speaking in a video shared by the BCCI, Gill explained how the CoE helped him recover and regain his form:
“I’m feeling much better. From the day I came here, I’ve had several skill sessions and training sessions. From recovery to training, it’s a paradise for any athlete. You come here to get physically and mentally better.”
He praised the extensive facilities at the CoE, including the oxygen chamber, cryo therapy, and other advanced recovery equipment.
“You can’t ask for better facilities. There are so many machines here that I don’t even know how to use them all, which shows you how big this setup is.”
🏫 NCA’s Role in Shaping Careers
Gill also reflected on his formative years at the National Cricket Academy (NCA):
“Growing up in under-14 and under-16 cricket, making it to the NCA was a huge deal. Only 25–30 players from hundreds got the chance. Coming here, you were the cream of the crop, and the coaches helped you take your skills to the next level, both physically and mentally.”
He emphasized the importance of effort and dedication in making the most of the CoE facilities:
“You have all the coaches, trainers, and physios to work with. But it’s how willing you are to work on yourself that will take you to the next level.”
🔜 Back in Action Against South Africa
With Gill fit and ready, India are set to take on South Africa in the first T20I at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack, on Tuesday. His return adds depth to the Men in Blue’s batting lineup as they aim to set the tone for the five-match series.
