Indonesian seamer Gede Priandana has etched his name into cricket history by becoming the first player ever to take five wickets in a single over in a men’s T20 International.
The historic moment came during the series opener against Cambodia, where the 28-year-old completely dismantled the opposition’s chase and guided Indonesia to a 60-run victory.
Cambodia were 106/5, chasing a target of 168, when Priandana was introduced in the 16th over. What followed was a spell for the ages. Bowling a seven-ball over that included a wide, Priandana claimed five wickets, including a hat-trick, and ended the match in dramatic fashion.
He dismissed Shah Abrar Hussain, Nirmaljit Singh, and Chanthoeun Rathanak in consecutive deliveries to complete his hat-trick, followed by a dot ball. He then removed Mongdara Sok and Pel Vennak with the final legitimate deliveries of the over, with a wide separating the dismissals. Cambodia were bundled out for 107, managing just one run in the entire over.
Priandana also chipped in with the bat, scoring six runs in Indonesia’s total of 167/5, while opener Dharma Kesuma starred with a blistering 110 not out, smashing six sixes. For Cambodia, India-born Luqman Butt was the standout performer with a quick 48 off 30 balls.
While bowlers like Al Amin Hossain and Abhimanyu Mithun have taken five wickets in an over in domestic T20 cricket, and legends like Lasith Malinga have taken four in four balls at international level, Priandana’s feat stands alone as a first-of-its-kind achievement in T20Is.
