Durban Super Giants captain Aiden Markram has said that expectations of success bring a “healthy pressure” as SA20 gears up for its fourth season, starting December 26.
The tournament will open with a blockbuster clash between defending champions MI Cape Town and Durban Super Giants at Newlands, while Pretoria Capitals begin their campaign against Joburg Super Kings the following day.
Speaking in the JioStar Press Room, Markram reflected on the responsibility that comes with leading a title-contending side. Having already won two SA20 titles with Sunrisers Eastern Cape, the South African batter acknowledged that expectations naturally follow success.
“You can’t run away from pressure when a franchise expects results,” Markram said. He highlighted that Durban Super Giants already have strong foundations, including an experienced coaching staff, solid management, and previous experience of reaching the final.
Markram added that his focus as captain is on guiding the team into the knockouts, pushing for a final appearance, and ultimately lifting the trophy. While pressure may increase, he believes it is part of the challenge that drives teams to perform at their best.
