New Delhi. The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is planning to hold the Asia Cup 2025 in September. This time the tournament will be played in T20 format.
It is expected to happen between the second or fourth week of September. The BCCI will host it, but the tournament will not take place in India.

According to Cricbuzz report, India has got the hosting rights of this tournament, but considering the India-Pakistan relations, ACC has decided that it will be organized in a neutral country. It is believed that it can be organized in Sri Lanka or UAE under the hosting of BCCI.

There will be eight teams in two groups

Like the previous edition, the eight teams will be divided into two groups. India and Pakistan will undoubtedly be in the same group. The top-2 teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage, of which the top two will advance to the final. In this format, India and Pakistan are sure to clash in the group stage, then in the Super Four round and perhaps even in the final.

Nepal could not qualify

Apart from India and Pakistan, eight teams, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, UAE, Oman and Hong Kong, will participate in the Asia Cup 2025. This time Nepal’s team could not qualify. This Himalayan country, which was a part of the last Asia Cup in 2023, could not qualify for this edition. An important decision taken recently by the ACC was that when the turn of either BCCI or PCB comes, the tournament will be held in a neutral country.

The tournament will be played in a neutral country

It is worth noting that the Indian team has been allowed to play in Dubai in the Champions Trophy hybrid model. Due to this, the PCB has sought a similar arrangement for next year’s T20 World Cup, which will be hosted by the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC). The weather in September is a challenge, but the tournament will be in T20 format. In such a situation, matches can be held in cooler evening temperatures.
