Ruben Amorim’s side produced their stylish performance in months but failed to hold on to their lead in San Sebastian
Manchester United had an important-bettered performance, but the result was disappusuallyas usual. The Red Devils put up a gallant performance against Real Sociedad in the first leg of the Europa League last- 16 tie but failed to convert their emotional play and multitudinous chances to leave Spain with just a 1–1 draw.
Joshua Zirkzee gave Ruben Amorim’s side a justified lead in the alternate half after a superb pass from Alejandro Garnacho who should have scored first and also missed a great occasion to double United’s lead. In the end United were fortunate to hold on for a draw as Sociedad cover Orri Oskarsson missed a great occasion from inside the box and was also baffled by a fine save by Andre Onana.
Everything is on the line in the alternate leg at Old Trafford coming week, but United will have to protest themselves for not giving away the lead in the first match.
