Former G Bash League (BBL) champions Sydney Thunder will take on Hobart Hurricanes in the 2024-25 final on Monday. The BBL 2024-25 final will be played at 7:15 pm local time, while in India it will be 1:45 pm.
Sydney Thunder won their only BBL title in the 2015-16 season when they defeated Melbourne Stars in the final. Meanwhile, Hobart Hurricanes finished runners-up in 2013-14 and 2017-18 and will be looking for their first title. So the competition will be tough.
In the journey to reach the BBL final, Nathan Ellis-led Hobart Hurricanes, along with Matthew Wade, Shai Hope and Tim David, topped the league stage points table, followed by Sydney Sixers. The Hurricanes had confirmed their place in the final by defeating the Sixers by 12 runs in the Qualifier. Meanwhile, Sydney Thunder, led by David Warner, successfully faced the challenge of Melbourne Stars in the knockouts and made it to the final by defeating Sydney Sixers in the Challenger. The knockout matches have been quite spectacular. In such a situation, the final is also expected to be a blockbuster.
Left-handed opener David Warner is the top scorer of the tournament this year with 357 runs in 11 matches. He scored a season-best unbeaten 88 against Hobart Hurricanes at the venue of the final. Mitchell Owen is the top scorer for Hurricanes with 344 runs in 10 matches. In bowling, Nathan Ellis (10 wickets) and Chris Green (12 wickets) have been the top wicket-takers for their respective teams. In the only encounter between the two sides in the league stage, Hobart Hurricanes chased down Sydney Thunder’s target of 164/6 in 17 overs. The second match was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
