The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have mutually agreed to postpone the proposed limited overs series between India and Bangladesh. The series was to be held in August 2025, which included three ODIs and three T20 Internationals.
A press release issued by the BCCI said that the decision has been taken keeping in mind the international cricket commitments of both the countries and coordination in scheduling. The board clarified that both the teams are embroiled in busy schedules, so it is in the interest of both the parties to go ahead with the series. The BCB has also said that they are excited about hosting India in 2026.
Political and diplomatic reasons are also being considered important behind this postponement. According to reports, the Indian government had advised the BCCI not to tour in view of the current situation. According to sources, there is political instability in Bangladesh at present and trade tensions are also being seen in India-Bangladesh relations.
Impact of trade deadlock on sports world
It is worth noting that in May 2025, the Indian government had set limits on readymade garments and processed food coming from Bangladesh. This decision was taken in response to the ban that the Bangladesh government had earlier imposed on Indian products. The impact of this trade deadlock is now visible on the sports world as well.
The last match between India and Bangladesh was played during the ICC Champions Trophy in June 2025, in which India won by six wickets. The last bilateral series was held in India in 2024, in which India clean swept both Test and T20 series.
