Mohammed Shami

Bengal head coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla has launched a scathing attack on India’s national selection committee after senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami was once again left out of the ODI squad.

🗣️ “This Is Injustice, This Is Shameful”

Expressing his frustration, Shukla did not hold back, describing Shami’s repeated omission as an “injustice” and even calling it “shameful.” According to the former India all-rounder, Shami has ticked every box laid down by the selectors but continues to be overlooked without clarity.

Shukla stressed that Shami has done everything possible to force a comeback, especially through consistent and impactful performances in domestic cricket after recovering from injury setbacks.

🏏 Domestic Dominance Ignored, Says Shukla

Highlighting Shami’s domestic performances, Shukla pointed out the pacer’s commitment to returning to the grind of Indian cricket rather than opting for shortcuts.

“If performances in domestic cricket don’t count, then what is the point of playing there?” Shukla questioned.

He added that Shami has been among the wickets regularly, while also showing fitness, discipline, and hunger—qualities selectors repeatedly claim to value when making selections.

⚠️ Wrong Message to Domestic Performers

Shukla warned that repeatedly ignoring a player like Shami sends a dangerous message to those performing consistently in domestic tournaments. According to him, it suggests that even excellence at the domestic level does not guarantee national consideration, which could demotivate players across the system.

❓ Questions Raised Over Selection Process

The Bengal coach also directed his criticism towards selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar, questioning the consistency and transparency of the current selection process. He compared Shami’s omission with the inclusion of other senior players, including KL Rahul, suggesting that opportunities appear unevenly distributed.

Shukla reminded everyone that Shami is not just another domestic bowler but a proven international match-winner who has delivered for India on the biggest stages.

⏳ “Deserves Respect, Not Neglect”

Calling the repeated snub “hard to understand,” Shukla warned that ignoring experienced campaigners like Shami could hurt India in crucial tournaments. He concluded by urging the selectors to reassess their approach, stating that Mohammed Shami “deserves respect, not neglect.”
