Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has reacted to Ruben Amorim’s ‘worst team in history’ comments by urging his teammates to ‘counter-attack’.
What happened?
Fernandes rescued United with a last-minute goal on Thursday night to secure a morale-boosting Europa League win over Rangers. However, the side’s struggles continue in the Premier League as they sit 13th in the table with just one win from their last five games. Amid the team’s poor form, the captain has now urged his teammates to “punch back” and prove that they deserve to represent the club.
what did bruno fernandes say
Speaking to reporters, the Portuguese midfielder said: “The reality is that to play here you need pressure, you need courage to play for this club. You have to feel every moment of every game that it is a new chance to get us back to the position we deserve.”
“Unfortunately this season there have been a lot of ups and downs for us and every time we’re about to get there, we get punched again and we fall down. What we need to do is every time we get punched and fall down, we need to get up and try to punch back
big picture
Amorim criticised his players in frustration after losing 3- 1 at home to Brighton and claimed his side should be considered” the worst in the club’s history”. Breaking his silence on the director’s commentary, Fernandes said” I do not want to hear my director say certain effects about the platoon because I know he does not feel that way. But he made himself part of it and when a director makes himself part of what he says, nothing can be angry or disappointed by that.
” When he says’ the worst platoon in Manchester’, he is talking about our position and when you look at where we’re in the league, we are the worst we have ever been. So you have to accept it, unfortunately that is the reality. We have been in this position for a long time and it’s not fair for the club to be there. But we’ve to accept it and understand that we need to push ourselves to indeed bigger effects and advanced positions.”
What next for Manchester United?
Amorim’s side will return to Premier League action on Sunday when they take on Fulham in a tough encounter.
