Change in captaincy
Regular skipper Shai Hope will miss the series, and Brandon King has been named captain in his absence. King has captained West Indies on a few previous occasions.
Players unavailable
Shai Hope, Roston Chase and Akeal Hosein are currently participating in the SA20 League in South Africa and will therefore not be part of this series.
Players returning
Shamar Joseph and Evin Lewis have returned to the squad after recovering from injuries. Alzarri Joseph has been left out to allow more recovery time. Quentin Sampson has earned his first call-up, replacing Rovman Powell, who has been rested for workload management.
Coach’s remarks
Head coach Darren Sammy said the series is crucial preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup and will also help returning players regain rhythm.
Series schedule
All three T20Is will be played at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium from January 19 to 22. The team will depart on January 14 and reach UAE on January 16.

West Indies and Afghanistan have met eight times in T20Is so far — West Indies won five, Afghanistan three.
