It was a historic night for Dutch football as Vivianne Miedema netted her 100th international goal, leading the Netherlands to a 2–0 win over Wales in a UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 warm-up fixture. The victory was part of a strong night for Europe’s top teams, with Germany also securing a win in their own pre-tournament clash.
🎯 Miedema Makes History
She reached her milestone in the 67th minute, finishing off a crisp attacking move with a composed strike into the bottom corner. The crowd erupted as the Arsenal forward celebrated with her teammates, marking a century of goals in just 124 international appearances.
“To reach 100 goals in this jersey is something I dreamed of as a kid,” Miedema said after the match.
The Netherlands controlled much of the game, with midfielder Jackie Groenen adding a second goal late in the match to seal the win.
🇩🇪 Germany Hold Firm in Tight Contest
Meanwhile, in Frankfurt, Germany edged past Switzerland 1–0 in a scrappy but disciplined performance. The only goal of the match came from Lena Oberdorf, who scored with a powerful header from a corner in the 53rd minute.
Head coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg praised the team’s defensive concentration and hinted at further lineup experiments as the tournament draws closer.
“We’re not there yet, but we’re building the right habits,” she said post-match.
🏆 Final Preparations for Euro 2025
Both the Netherlands and Germany are seen as strong contenders for the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 title, which kicks off next week. With Miedema in form and Germany showing tactical discipline, both squads appear to be rounding into shape at just the right time.
The Dutch face France in their tournament opener, while Germany begin their campaign against Italy.
