hampions trophy 2025: Former India captain and coach Anil Kumble believes Virat Kohli is putting too much pressure on himself to return to form and has advised the star batsman to stay stress-free.
In the six innings that Kohli has played in this format after the ODI World Cup 2023, he has managed to score only 137 runs, which includes one half-century.
You can see it in the way he is carrying his innings. Kumble told ESPNcricinfo, “He doesn’t have to worry about it.”
He said, “Look at Rohit Sharma, he plays freely because there are many batsmen ahead and they are all in great form. Similarly, Virat also needs to play freely without worrying about anything.” Kumble said, “All players go through difficult times in their careers but looking at him batting, I feel that he is putting too much pressure on himself.”
The former captain of India is of the opinion that Kohli can overcome this bad phase by playing with ease. “When you have this kind of pressure and the burden of expectations builds on you, then you suddenly start giving such things unnecessary importance and start trying to perform well too hard,” Kumble stated. “When you do this, you are not really relaxed,” he stated.
