Said Altinordu – 847 matches
When a footballer gets the chance to rename a club in his own honor, it’s hardly shocking that he chooses to stay there forever. That’s exactly what happened with the iconic Turkish player Said Altinordu. After Turkey introduced the Surname Law in 1934, he officially took the name Altınordu and the club became Altınordu S.K.
The centre-back went on to play an astonishing 847 league fixtures for the team, finding the net 29 times. During his time there he lifted six regional championships and earned four caps for the Turkey national team. Remarkably, after his own international appearances, no other footballer from Altınordu represented Turkey again until Çağlar Söyüncü – later of Leicester City – broke that drought in 2016.
