Sports Desk, New Delhi. The pain of Shreyas Iyer, who was part of Team India that won the Champions Trophy-2025, has come out. Iyer batted brilliantly in the middle order and was among the heroes of India’s victory.
He has cemented his place in the team’s middle order. However, Iyer has one regret.
Iyer regrets that even after leading Kolkata Knight Riders to the IPL-2024 title under his captaincy, he did not get the respect he deserved. Kolkata won its third title under Iyer’s captaincy. Still, the franchise did not retain its captain. Iyer was roped in by Punjab Kings in the mega auction and has been made the captain
these past few months have been happy
He was second in the list of highest run-scorers in the Champions Trophy. He scored 243 runs. Iyer is very happy with his performance. Talking to the English newspaper Times of India, he said, “I am very happy. Honestly, it has been a journey for me. I was dropped from the central contract after the ODI World Cup-2023. I examined myself as to where I am wrong, what should I do. How much should I focus on my fitness.”
Iyer said, “I asked myself all these questions and then made a routine. After this I worked on my training and skills. Once I started getting the opportunity to play matches regularly in domestic cricket, then I realized how important fitness is for me. Overall I am very happy.”
Many times, attention is not received
Iyer said that many times it happens with him that he works hard and does well, but still he does not get the attention he deserves. He said, “When I talk about recognition, it is about getting respect. It is about the respect that should be given in return for my efforts on the field. I feel that many times my efforts are not given importance.”
When Iyer was asked if he ever felt frustrated with Joe Sentral leaving the contract and what happened in his career
He said, “This never happened because I was playing IPL. My focus was on winning IPL. I personally feel that I did not get the respect I should have got after winning IPL, but as long as you have the passion to follow your principles and when you do everything right, it is very important and that is what I was doing.”
