In order to alleviate the financial and logistical burden, the ICC intends to implement four-day Test matches for smaller countries in the 2027–2029 WTC cycle.iconic series like the Ashes and Border-Gavaskar Trophy will remain five-day contests. ICC Chair Jay Shah supports the idea. England has played four-day Tests before. Five-day games will continue to be played in the 2025–2027 WTC cycle.
