New Zealand defeated India by seven wickets in the second ODI in Rajkot to level the three-match series 1–1. Chasing a target of 285, the visitors cruised home in 47.3 overs, riding on a brilliant unbeaten 131 from Daryl Mitchell.
Mitchell anchored the innings to perfection and shared a crucial partnership with Will Young, ensuring New Zealand stayed in control throughout the chase despite a slowish pitch. Young also played an impressive knock of 87, supporting Mitchell in the match-winning stand.
Earlier, India posted 284 for 7 in their 50 overs, thanks to a superb 112 not out from KL Rahul. Shubman Gill contributed 56, while Rohit Sharma scored 24 as the hosts got off to a solid start. However, New Zealand’s spinners pulled things back in the middle overs, preventing India from reaching a bigger total.
Virat Kohli (23) and Ravindra Jadeja (27) got starts but failed to convert them into big scores. For New Zealand, Kristian Clarke impressed with figures of 3/56.
With this result, the series is now level at 1–1. The series-decider will be played in Indore on Sunday.
