IND vs NZ: Murali Vijay praises Varun Chakraborty, makes a big prediction about the Champions Trophy final

IND vs NZ ICC Champions Trophy 2025: Former India opener Murali Vijay has heaped praise on mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who is performing brilliantly in the ongoing Champions Trophy.

Vijay said Chakravarthy is on his way to becoming a world-class bowler because of his amazing control over the carrom ball and flipper.

Chakraborty has played two matches so far in the tournament and has taken seven wickets in them. This includes five wickets taken in the group stage match against New Zealand. India will face New Zealand in the final on Sunday, in which Chakraborty will play an important role.

“I believe Varun Chakravarthy is a world-class bowler. He is close to becoming a world-class bowler in ODI and T20 formats because there are very few bowlers who can bowl the carrom ball and flipper with complete control. It is a joy to watch him bowl,” Murali Vijay told PTI during an event.

Vijay also said that Chakravarthy’s growth is a result of playing international cricket regularly. “It is a natural progression, as I speak now, he has more rhythm than before. That’s how life goes. Playing for India is special for all of us and once you get that opportunity, you want to make the most of it,” he said.

Chakraborty is mentally strong

India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav recently said that Chakravarthy has become mentally stronger now and remains calm in any situation. Vijay agreed, saying that this development is a result of playing regularly in international cricket.

Vijay has faith in the Indian team

Murali Vijay, who has played 61 Tests, 17 ODIs and nine T20 Internationals for India, is hopeful that India will be successful in winning the Champions Trophy. India will face New Zealand in the final on Sunday.

Vijay said, “Honestly, the Indian cricket team has been playing the best cricket for many years. All the players are in form and look fit. The final is going to be important. I am hopeful that India will win the trophy. Our team has been undefeated so far and if we become champions, it will be great.”
