Back in November, Lyon was given a temporary relegation, with the remaining months of the season to address their financial predicament, which had been getting worse for years. The National Directorate of Management Control (DNCG), a French football watchdog, stated on June 24 that the seven-time Ligue 1 winners will be demoted despite having lost a number of important players since then, notably Rayan Cherki, who recently joined Manchester City. The club, whose owner, Textor, just sold his Crystal Palace shares, is reportedly going to appeal the ruling.
