India pacer Mohammed Siraj is set to begin a new chapter in his domestic career after being named the captain of Hyderabad for the remainder of the Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season. The 31-year-old will lead the side in the second phase of the tournament, replacing Rahul Singh as skipper.
This will be Siraj’s first time captaining Hyderabad in first-class cricket. Rahul Singh, the outgoing captain, will continue to be part of the leadership group and serve as vice-captain.
Hyderabad are currently placed fourth in Group D, with one win and one draw from five matches. The team will next face Mumbai on January 22, followed by a clash against Chhattisgarh on January 29. Siraj is also set to make his first Ranji Trophy appearance of the season, having been busy with national team commitments earlier.
Siraj brings strong experience to the role. He has represented India in 45 Tests, 48 ODIs and 16 T20Is. In first-class cricket, he has been highly impressive, picking up 309 wickets in 88 matches at an average of 26.
