When Manchester City kicks off their challenge at the Club World Cup on Wednesday, they might have a new appearance.
In their Group opening against Wydad Casablanca of Morocco, Pep Guardiola’s team joins the infamous tournament in the United States.
These agreements followed the January additions of Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, Nico Gonzalez, and Omar Marmoush following a lackluster 2024–25 campaign.
With the exception of third-choice goalie Bettinelli, the new players are scheduled to make their debuts at Lincoln Financial Field in a match that begins at noon local time.
The next stage of City’s transition appears to be about to begin, with Kevin De Bruyne already gone and Jack Grealish not in the team and facing an uncertain future at the club.
Cherki is eager to get started, and Guardiola has consistently referred to the Club World Cup as the beginning of 2025–2026 rather than the conclusion of the previous trophyless season.
In an interview made public by the team upon his acquisition, the France midfielder declared, “He is the best coach in the world, and I think he is the best coach in history.”
“I am honored to work with him, and I can not wait to play.”
Prior to its dramatic makeover as a 32-team, month-long competition this summer, City won the Club World Cup in its previous incarnation in December 2023, and they remain the current winners.
“This is a new cup, and we want to win,” Cherki stated. I want the squad to win since it is the first time in history, and it happens every four years.”
For the tournament, City has set up shop close to Miami, and on Tuesday, they were scheduled to go to Philadelphia. At 11.45 p.m. BST, Guardiola was supposed to conduct a press conference.
City’s remaining group matches are against Juventus in Orlando and Al Ain of Abu Dhabi in Atlanta.
