The news of his retirement stunned the cricket world. A few days after announcing his retirement, Heinrich revealed the reason for saying goodbye to international cricket at the age of 33.
Henriques said he wanted to take part in major T20 leagues along with international duty but a deal with Cricket South Africa and a change in coaching forced him to take the step.
According to the Rapport report, Heinrich Klaasen had initially planned to play for South Africa till the 2027 Cricket World Cup. But the departure of Rob Walter from the post of coach and the appointment of coach Shukri Konrad for the white ball team created uncertainty in Klaasen’s career plans. Despite scoring the most runs for South Africa in ODIs since 2023, he was left out of the central contract in April.
Heinrich Klaasen said, “I felt for a long time that my performance doesn’t matter much, whether the team wins or loses. It is wrong to stay in such a place. I had a long conversation with Rob before the Champions Trophy, and I told him that I don’t feel good at heart about what is happening. I am not enjoying it that much. We talked well, we planned everything well till the World Cup in 2027.”
He further added, “So when he finished his tenure as coach and the contract negotiations with CSA did not go as planned, it made my decision very easy.”
Klaasen announced his retirement on the social media platform today. Klaasen retired from Test cricket last year. Now he has also retired from ODI and T20. He made his cricket debut for South Africa in the year 2018. He played four Tests, 60 ODIs and 58 T20 Internationals for South Africa. He scored 104 runs in four Tests, 2141 runs in 60 ODIs and one thousand runs in 58 T20s.
