David Miller

South African veteran David Miller is all set to return to international cricket as the Proteas gear up for the opening T20I against India in Cuttack on Tuesday. This will be Miller’s first appearance for South Africa since the ICC Champions Trophy, and the experienced left-hander could not hide his excitement about rejoining the squad.

💬 Miller: “Feeling strong, fit and ready to go”

Miller revealed that watching his teammates excel in recent months motivated him even more to return stronger.

“It’s just great to be back. Watching the guys from home was enjoyable, even though I always feel I want to be out there. They’ve been doing so well,” Miller said.

The 36-year-old spoke about how the break — forced partly due to a hamstring injury — allowed him to reset mentally and physically.

“Being at home, reflecting, trying different training routines… it was really cool. You must take positives from negative situations. I’m feeling strong, feeling fit, and ready to go.”

🏏 India vs South Africa: Series Shifts To T20Is

After a dramatic Test series where India were whitewashed 0–2, followed by a comeback 2–1 ODI series win, the focus now moves to a five-match T20I series.

With both teams featuring a blend of senior stars and young talents, many believe India and South Africa could once again meet in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 final, just like the 2024 edition.

🎯 Flashback: Miller’s Crucial Wicket In 2024 T20 WC Final

Miller’s iconic moment from the 2024 T20 World Cup final remains fresh in cricket fans’ minds. His dismissal — courtesy of a sensational catch by Suryakumar Yadav at long-off — was the turning point of the match and one of the biggest wickets of Hardik Pandya’s career.

Since that tournament, Miller has featured in just 10 white-ball matches out of 54 for the Proteas. His last outing was memorable, scoring a century against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy semifinal.

South Africa have undergone significant changes since then — a new white-ball coach, a World Test Championship title, and strong limited-overs performances across Zimbabwe, Australia, and India.

🩹 Injury, The Hundred, and the Long Road Back

Miller missed the Australia series due to his commitments in The Hundred before suffering a major hamstring injury that sidelined him for months.

Now, with the clouds cleared and fitness restored, the veteran is determined to deliver in the lead-up to next year’s T20 World Cup and the 2027 ODI World Cup at home.

🏆 “South Africa Are Close To A World Title” — Miller

Having endured heartbreaks in the 2015 and 2023 ODI World Cup semifinals and the narrow loss to India in the 2024 T20 World Cup final, Miller believes South Africa are inching closer to lifting their maiden white-ball world trophy.

“There’s no single recipe to win a World Cup. It takes a team effort — players and management. It’s about standing up when the big moments arrive.”

He added that the current squad depth is the strongest he has seen in years.

“There’s a huge pool of players putting their hands up. It’s going to be tough for the selectors. We’re in a really good space.”
