Indian domestic cricket has been shaken by a serious match-fixing controversy after the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) suspended four players for their alleged involvement in corrupt practices during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025, held in Lucknow.
The suspended players — Amit Sinha, Ishan Ahmed, Aman Tripathi, and Abhishek Thakuri — are accused of attempting to influence and instigate current Assam team members. The matter came to light after the Assam captain reportedly admitted to receiving corrupt approaches, prompting swift action from the state body.
Following the allegations, the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) conducted an inquiry. Based on prima facie findings, the ACA imposed immediate suspensions to prevent any further compromise of the game’s integrity.
The association has also lodged an FIR with the Guwahati Crime Branch, initiating criminal proceedings against the four players. During the suspension period, the accused have been barred from all cricket-related activities, including participation in matches, coaching, officiating, or association with district units and affiliated clubs.
In an official statement, the ACA reiterated its zero-tolerance stance, stressing its commitment to safeguarding the spirit and credibility of the sport. The suspensions will remain in effect until the investigation is concluded and further decisions are taken.
The development marks yet another reminder of the ongoing battle against corruption in domestic cricket and highlights the importance of vigilance at every level of the game.
